Poor Boyz Productions & Distribution of Redondo Beach, California is the creation of Johnny Decesare. Once a former professional mogul skier and a current avid surfer, Johnny left the competitive ranks to devote his life to capturing the mind-blowing imagery of professional skiing. For the past 15 years, the Poor Boyz family has built itself on documenting the most quintessential ski moments in skiing history. Poor Boyz continues to push forward priding itself on not only being at the forefront of skiing but also on the forefront of the changing new media platforms.
2008 was a monumental year for Poor Boyz, as we took a deeper look at the sport so many of us dedicate our lives to. In "Reasons", we took a look at what it is about skiing that draws us to it, and what it takes to keep at it, day after day. After winning numerous awards including, 'Best Overall Film', 'Best Editing', and 'Best Trick' at IF3, ‘Movie of The Year’ at the PVA’s and 'Best Core Film' at X-Dance, "Reasons" has left a permanent notch on the pillar of ski films.
2009 was no different. Poor Boyz took you on the road and into the day-to-day lives of skiers around the globe. No matter the terrain, the conditions, or the time of day; as long as friends and snow are together – Every Day is a Saturday. We continued the winning tradition with four awards at IF3, ‘Best Film’, ‘Peoples Choice’, “Best Soundtrack’, and ‘Male Performer of the Year’.
Poor Boyz has continued its evolution focusing on many new media platforms, such as, our custom digital download store, multiple products and our LIVE world premiere event. Moving forward in 2010, Poor Boyz will continue its evolution working with more new platforms, and products so you the fan get the most out of Poor Boyz! Check back daily for new updates from the PBP crew and athletes!
In 2010, we present….REVOLVER.
Revolver, the 2010 film from Poor Boyz Productions focuses on the progression and the factors that have coincided with many great advancements of the sport of skiing. (Over the last decade skiing has exploded into what we know it is today. But skiing has had many trying moments long before the end of the 20th century.) This season Poor Boyz Productions plans to showcase today’s raw talents of skiing in a high action, retrospective, yet progressive look at what things are pushing the sport today.

critic- Nicholas (1991) and he said there are 5 different modes of documentaryies. which are defined by techniques rather than subject matter like films.
1. expositry- voiceover narration, aim to inform e.g frozen planet.
2. observational- attemps to show the world as it is, long takes, no interviews, just showing (the family)
3. participatory(interactive)- made from their point of view the film maker is int he foreground. handhelp camera informal interviews ( louis theraux)
4&5. reflexive and informative- reprentations based on the construction and manipulation of a image.
expticitily challenges the idea of documentry truth. some scenes set up for the enjoyment of the viewer.

Short Film Reviews

Brian Percival-About A Girl
As she walks along the canal she is explaining the story of her life.
Shaky hand held camera to show the common look.
Refers to the baby like the dog.
At the end birds eye view, then a camera looking up.
Leading up to a big ending.
Continuous editing along the canal.
Shocking message.
Challenging the innocence of little girls.

Telling Lies-Simon Ellis-2000
Clever editing, hear different to what text you are reading.
Only plain black background, so all the focus is on the text.
Have to pay attention the whole time.
Text is colour coded to each person.
Title enters screen as if it is texted.
Sound is also as it is being dialled.

Jim Gillespie-Joyride-1995
Dark lighting and the music are key conventions of a horror story.
Lots of close up shots, to make it scarier.
Lots of shots that could not be seen, left to your imagination and small images such as dripping blood to keep to the scary theme of horror.
